Types of polypropylene

• Homopolymers

They consist only of propylene monomers in semi-crystalline form. They are mainly used in textiles, pipes, packaging, electrical applications, and medical components. 

• Copolymers

This type of polymers is further divided into two types; random and block copolymers. Copolymers are produced by the polymerization of propene and ethene and contain large amounts of ethylene, due to which other desirable properties can be easily achieved. They are softer but offer better impact strength.

Advantages of polypropylene

Since it can withstand twisting motions without snapping, it is very low cost and straightforward to produce. It is also readily available in most countries.

It is an excellent material to use as a packaging material, and for hinges and bottle tops made of a thin layer of plastic, owing to its high chemical and fatigue resistance along with durability and versatility. Since it can be produced as an opaque or transparent thermoplastic, PP granules offer great versatility in color.
